HOW TO CARE FOR AN AIR FRYER TO INCREASE ITS LONGEVITY

Updated: Feb 11, 2023

After extensive study, I made the decision to buy an air fryer a few years ago. I will admit that I was wary, mostly because I had recently bought an instant pot. At the time, I questioned if I really needed another tiny kitchen item.

But I finally took the jump and got the air fryer after reading so many positive reviews about being able to cook your meals in a healthy way with no preparation and cleanup. I later found out that it was even better than I had read. Like most people, I began by making simple air fryer recipes for beginners before progressing to making breakfasts, sides, appetizers, desserts, and even holiday feasts.

The air fryer, without a question, has earned a permanent spot in my kitchen, therefore I want to make sure it lasts as long as possible. Of course, maintaining it properly is the best way to go about doing this.

Cleaning up after using the air fryer is quite easy because it uses little to no oil. You should have no trouble extending the life of your air fryer as long as you are taking a few crucial steps.

HOW TO CARE FOR AN AIR FRYER TO INCREASE ITS LONGEVITY

In order to make cleaning easier and your air fryer last longer, there are a few things you should be aware of before using your air fryer.

IN YOUR AIR FRYER, NEVER USE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:

  • metal utensils

  • scouring pads

  • steel wool

  • abrasive sponges

  • non-stick aerosol sprays

All of these products can scratch the non-stick coating of your basket, causing flaking which can lead to rust. Ultimately, once any kind of scratching occurs, it results in food sticking to the basket making cleaning very difficult.

NEVER START CLEANING AN AIR FRYER WITHOUT FIRST UNPLUGGING IT.

Remember to unplug the air fryer after using it so that it can cool down entirely, which should take about 15-20 minutes. Never let the main unit soak in water.

CLEAN UP RIGHT ALWAYS FOLLOWING EACH USE.

Clean your air fryer after each usage to prevent buildup and keep it in top condition. I will soak my air fryer drawer and basket in warm soapy water once they have cooled to help remove any baked-on residue while we eat.

HAND WASHING

I tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to this small appliance, even though the manufacturer of your air fryer may claim that it is dishwasher safe. Hand-washing the air fryer basket and its accessories with a soft sponge and a light detergent might help prevent any potential scratches.

Is it possible to use aluminum foil in an air fryer?

You can use aluminum foil in your air fryer; I personally do it frequently. Nevertheless, you should be careful not to cover your food because an air fryer cooks food by circulating hot air around it. However, use a small quantity on the base of your basket to keep the air moving.

Utilize these 5 Simple Steps to Clean Your Air Fryer.

Cleaning your air fryer doesn't have to be challenging; in fact, it's really simple and usually only requires a wipe-down. However, this useful cleaning advice may be useful when you have baked-on residue.

1. TAKE THE BASKET OUT AND SOAK IT

Remove the air fryer basket, tray, or pans after allowing the appliance to cool completely, and soak them in hot, soapy water while you savor the mouthwatering food you just cooked.

2. SCRUB THE AIR FRYER'S INTERIOR

When your removable pieces are finished soaking and you're ready to start cleaning, wipe the inside of your air fryer with a wet, soapy towel. After that, rinse with a clean cloth to get rid of any soap residue. Be sure to periodically inspect the heating coil for signs of dirt or oil build-up and clean it with a moist cloth.

3. SCRUB THE EXTERIOR

After cleaning the inside of your air fryer, wipe down the outside. A simple wipe with a moist cloth is typically all that is required because it shouldn't be very dirty.

4. CLEAN THE BASKET

The removable basket and other pieces can now begin to be cleaned. Simply wipe away any baked-on residue with a soft cloth. This operation ought to be somewhat simplified by the soaking, but if you're still having trouble, try using a non-abrasive sponge to get rid of any lingering food bits.

5. DRY THE BASKET

You can either put your basket back in and turn on your air fryer to quickly dry any removable pieces, or you can dry any removable parts thoroughly with a soft dry cloth until they are totally dried. Just be sure to wait till it has cooled before storing it.
