KITCHEN ESSENTIALS YOU'LL NEED FOR YOUR FIRST APARTMENT

Updated: Feb 9, 2023

It's exciting to move into your first apartment. particularly if it is your first time living independently. Everyone will eventually have a strong sense of independence.

Having a list of everything you'll need can be quite beneficial, whether you're moving in with a roommate, your significant other, or you get the place to yourself. This way, you can be sure to remember nothing!

You will require a lot of things for each room in your new first apartment, some of which you may not have ever considered!

Of course, if money is tight, you can decide against purchasing all of these things in advance of moving in. They can instead be acquired over time as you gradually accumulate funds and move into your first apartment.

When moving into your first apartment, it's a good idea to start buying as soon as possible. When you get the chance, take one or more items from your list and place them in a storage container or moving box. If you don't want to spend a lot of money all at once, this can make things simpler.

KITCHEN ESSENTIALS FOR YOUR APARTMENT:

CUPS AND MUGS

The first item on our list is a few essentials: mugs. For a good variety, you might choose a nice pair of glasses like these that come in two different sizes. You might also want to include plastic cups on your list. These from Target, which are only 75 cents each and are available in a wide variety of colors, are my favorite. These come in a variety of sizes as well.

If you want to get a cute set like this or amass a collection of cool and distinctive coffee cups for your new apartment, coffee mugs are another thing you'll need.

I frequently use to-go cups. I brew an iced coffee with my Mr. Coffee iced coffee machine every morning before I go to work, and I either drink it out of the included cup or a plastic tumbler from Starbucks. I periodically fill it up with water after I've finished my coffee for the day. You can choose from one of those or maybe a yeti, but my favorites are the ones that include a straw!

Pitchers are a fantastic addition to your list as well. A pitcher is a useful thing to have in your new kitchen if you enjoy making juices, whether from scratch or with readymade mixes like Kool Aid.

PLATES AND BOWLS

Once more, you can select from glass, ceramic, or plastic. The same Target brand that sells plastic cups also provides an excellent selection of plates and bowls for about 75 cents apiece. Additionally, they are available in a wide range of sizes and colors. A good dinnerware set that includes plates, bowls, and even coffee cups is another option.

You can choose from creative and appealing patterns or go with a reliable set like this one from Amazon. This can make buying a set simpler because you won't have to worry about purchasing everything separately. All nearby big box stores, like Walmart and Target, will have a wide selection of single pieces and tableware sets if you prefer to purchase in person.

SILVERWARE AND SILVERWARE HOLDER

I purchased this set of cutlery in black matte for my apartment from Amazon and I adore it! This set appealed to me since it included four steak knives in addition to various-sized spoons and forks.

My new apartment's kitchen is quite small, and there aren't many drawers to put my cutlery in. A conventional silverware holder would not fit with where I wanted to keep my silverware. This little silverware holder is fantastic. I was concerned that it would be too tall or that the silverware would protrude too much, but everything fits perfectly inside.

KNIVES

In the kitchen, having nice knives is essential. If you choose to keep them on your counter, use a knife set and holder. A set that you can put in your drawers would be a better choice if you want to free up room on your countertop. If you don't want to purchase a sizable prepackaged set, consider all the different methods you cook and all the different kinds of knives you might need.

COOKING UTENSILS

Consider all the different cooking items you might require while also considering all the varied methods you cook. In your first apartment kitchen, you'll likely need a huge wooden spoon, a soup ladle, a draining spoon, a pasta server, various spatulas, an oil brush, tongs, and a whisk. Many of your local retailers provide sets that include all of these goods as well as other items. Wood and silicone are only two of the many materials available on Amazon. Even measuring spoons are included with this silicone set!

MEASURING CUPS

To make sure you have measuring spoons as well, getting a utensil set like the one shown above is a fantastic option. You might also want to include measuring cups on your list of first-time apartment kitchen necessities.

MIXING BOWLS, BAKEWARE, AND COOKWARE

When moving into your first apartment, a nice set of bakeware and cookware is crucial. Everyday cooking requires a variety of pots and pans with lids in various sizes. To make sure you have a good variety for everything you may need, you can also purchase these in a readymade set. You can discover a nice set of non-stick, stainless steel, or granite-coated cookware among the many various types of material available. Cast iron dining room sets are also available. Mixing bowls are another important essential for your first apartment kitchen. These can be used for cooking, baking, and also when serving. You can find sets of various sizes in these as well.

CUTTING BOARDS

You'll also need this item in the kitchen of your first residence. A decent cutting board can be used for a variety of tasks, such as chopping fresh produce and meat. On the market, there are numerous varieties of cutting boards. A fine oak cutting board is one possibility, but there are also less expensive plastic alternatives and extra-thin cutting mats.

KITCHEN TOOLS AND GADGETS

pizza cutters, scissors, can openers, peelers, meat tenderizers, etc. Your first apartment's kitchen needs list should include a variety of tiny, practical kitchen appliances and tools. You can find these things in the kitchen section of any big-box retailer, or you can browse a ton of fantastic selections online.

RELATED TOOLS

TOWELS AND POTHOLDERS

Another kitchen necessity you'll need in your first apartment is a decent set of dish towels, oven mitts, or pot holders. You will very certainly use towels every day, and they also make wonderful decorations. Both attractive and useful towel sets are available for a reasonable price.

PAPER GOODS, STRAWS, STORAGE BAGS, AND ECO-FRIENDLY PRODUCTS

You should also have storage bags, paper towels, napkins, and straws in your kitchen. These can be recyclable plastic, paper, or eco-friendly products.

COMPACT APPLIANCES

It's useful to have a few small appliances around the apartment. You can decide to merely purchase a few necessities, such as a microwave, coffee machine, and air fryer, depending on the size of your flat.

You might want to include a toaster, blender, and mixer on your list of things to buy. You could also wish to bring kettles, waffle makers, or espresso machines to your first flat.

The KitchenAid appliances I prefer are made by them. They are a purchase worth making because they are high-quality and will last for many years. The top KitchenAid appliances are listed below. I advise looking at Amazon for their countertop Appliances if you have a limited budget.

KITCHEN CLEANERS AND TRASH CAN

A garbage can and cleaning supplies would be the last items I would put on my list of first apartment kitchen necessities. These are things you should keep on hand in order to be totally prepared and avoid running out to buy them when you need them. The majority of apartments will have a cleaning staff come in and clean the apartment before you move in, but I like to give a new home a quick once-over to make sure it's thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.

It is really exciting to move into your first apartment! You'll be prepared for everything on your new journey if you have everything you need when you move in. You can either start your buying early or go on a major shopping binge; either way, you'll have everything you need.
