MAY GO-TO NIGHTLY CLEANING RITUAL

Do you think your home is a mess and your sink is full of dirty dishes every morning?

Then, a quick and simple night cleaning routine is exactly what you require.

If you're anything like me, the idea of cleaning up after a hectic day is intimidating.

All you really want to do is finish supper, spend time with your family, put the kids to bed, and then unwind with a good book or movie.

I absolutely don't want to do any cleaning.

But I keep telling myself that it will all be worth it if I can wake up the next morning to a clean house. Additionally, once you begin performing these simple chores every night, they will soon develop into habits.

WHY SHOULD I START A NIGHT ROUTINE, I AM TOO TIRED!

A few years ago, I was having trouble keeping up with all that needed to be done around our house. In the morning, the sink would be overflowing with dishes, and the worktops would be cluttered. I would then go to bed every night dreading the mess that would be there when I woke up.

All I had to do was regain control and discover a simpler approach to streamline my cleaning routine. I made a list of what needed to be done each day to keep each space maintained so that it wouldn't gather and become overwhelming. I finally came up with a bi-weekly cleaning schedule that I still use now to keep my house immaculate.

Even though having a basic plan of action was useful, I knew I needed something more specialized to handle the smaller daily duties. So to make my life even simpler, I decided to establish morning and evening cleaning rituals.

My night cleaning ritual aims to allocate a little period of time each evening (often less than 20 minutes) for sweeping, washing or loading the dishwasher, clearing the counters, and picking up clutter. Even though these are minor tasks, they will have a big impact on how you feel the following morning since you will wake up less anxious and ready to face the day.

MAKE SURE TO DE-CLUTTER FIRST

Clear the clutter first, of course.

It's crucial to deal with the clutter in your home before starting any kind of cleaning regimen.

So, before you begin your nightly cleaning ritual, take a few minutes to pick up any items that have gathered over the day.

A handy basket for toys or other objects might be useful.

Keep in mind that the purpose of a nightly cleaning programme is to maintain and keep your home tidy, not to perform a comprehensive clean.

The time to put everything away can always be added to your BI-weekly cleaning routine.

SET A TIMER

Setting a timer could be useful if you frequently get side-tracked.

Allocate 20 minutes to your night-time housekeeping duties.

Because you are getting acclimated to a new routine, it can take you a little longer or a little less time at first, but as time passes and it becomes a habit, it will come naturally to you.

NIGHTLY CLEANING RITUAL FOR LESS-OVERWHELMING MORNINGS

I often begin my nightly cleaning ritual after dinner.

I simply focus on the main living rooms of our house because it isn't a deep clean, starting with the kitchen and proceeding to the living room after.

Every night, it just takes about 30 minutes, sometimes less depending on how much mess needs to be cleaned up first.

LET’S DIVE INTO WHAT MY CLEANING RITUAL LOOKS LIKE

GOD, DISHES MY LEAST FAVORITE

I don't know about you, but doing the dishes is one of my least favourite chores, but it must be done. So, even if you wanted to wash those dishes after dinner and deal with them later, you didn't. Dinner dishes should be washed or rinsed and placed in the dishwasher for 10 minutes. When you're done, don't forget to clean your sink using a microfiber cloth dampened with soap.

CLEAN THE COUNTERS

I use an all-purpose cleaner to clean my kitchen's countertops, table, and stove after I've finished doing the dishes. Let's face it: if your counters aren't clean, what good is having a spotlessly clean sink?

SWEEP, SWEEP AND SWEEEEEEP

I will now pick up a broom and quickly sweep the floors to remove any crumbs that may have fallen during dinner. Being quick is the objective because you can always perform better tomorrow.

NOW GET RID OF ANY TRASH

Since I don't particularly enjoy doing this. My partner will step in and takes care of things as needed.

LET’S HEAD TO MY LIVING ROOM

I'll finish by going into the living room and removing any remaining debris I might have overlooked.

I'll fold the blankets and set the cushions properly. During this time, you can also fold and put away any laundry you did earlier in the day.

When establishing a cleaning schedule, you could encounter difficulties since it takes longer than you would want.

You sometimes forget things you need to accomplish, so I made a printable nightly cleaning checklist that you can use to stay on task and be more productive.

PRO tip: After printing your list, place it in a dollar shop frame and cross each thing off with a dry-erase marker or a sharpie (you just have to use rubbing alcohol to remove it).

You can avoid worrying about smudging in this manner.

The following day, start over by wiping everything down.
